Primitivism- The incorporation in early-20th century Western art of stylistic elements from the artifacts of Africa, Oceania, and the native peoples of Americas. Picasso is a very famous artist who used this form of art. It was when the newspapers had a lot of stories with cannibalism, and the Belgium mistreatment of the Africans. The primitivism art emphasizes their face, it is noticeable that most of the primitive arts have masks. This is a very abstract but also very concrete type of art, because if you went to Africa you will know that the masks really are worn by people. But to the Europeans it is very hard to imagine that someone will wear a mask like that. When I first saw this painting I was very surprised because the picture is so ugly, it looks as if they wanted to draw the devil. Primitivism art is what the African people looked from the European perspective.
